Through the use of in vitro fertilization (IVF), a 74-year-old Indian woman gave birth to twins.
Erramatti Mangayamma has waited nearly 60 years to have children with her 80-year-old husband Rajarao, who is a farmer.
She has surpassed the age of the world’s oldest mother from Nelapartipadu village in East Godavari district
“I’m overjoyed. Our prayers have been heard by God, “She informed the media following the birth. The twins, delivered by caesarean section, were very well informed despite their advanced age.
Nelapartipadu in East Godavari district married Mangayamma on March 22, 1962. The marriage was fruitless for decades until Yerramatti read about a pregnant 55 year-old woman residing near her house. The woman became pregnant through IVF.
But at the age of more than 70, when she went through menopause. When the ovaries were no longer enough to meet the conditions. Even though they’re at this age, they still can’t be parents.Then another miracle came to grandparents. Using donor eggs and her husband’s sperm when he was over 80.
Doctor Umasankar said: ‘As she is old, she cannot release eggs so we got eggs from a donor and collected sperm from her husband.
“Luckily, she conceived in the first cycle itself and she was found to be pregnant this January. It was smooth, as there were no health complications”.
The babies were born healthy, each weighing about 2kg. However, she was unable to breastfeed her children. Since then, Mangayamma was under the supervision of doctors in the nursing home.
At 74, Mangayamma surpasses the previous record for the world’s oldest mothers, held by either 72-year-old Daljinder Kaur from Amritsar, who gave birth in 2017, or 66-year-old Maria del Carmen Bousada Lara, according to Guinness World Records.
