Toronto Travel Doctor Delivers Baby “Miracle Aisha” At Mid-Flight

Only 35 weeks into her pregnancy, the mother went into labor. Fortunately, there was a doctor on board, and everything went smoothly. Suppose that you are on a flight between Doha, Qatar, and Entebbe, Uganda, at 10,000 meters, and you are about to go into labor approximately a month before your due date. On December 5, 2021, that is what occurred to an unnamed Ugandan woman. Little Miracle Aisha chose to go a global tour one hour before the plane, which took roughly six hours, took off. Thankfully, mother and daughter could rely on specialized assistance. When she heard the iconic phrase “Is there a doctor?” Canadian physician Aisha Khatib was on board and made the decision to assist.

She was the one who shared on social media the experience of helping with an overhead birth, specifically. The doctor claimed that when she approached the lady, there was a swarm around her and the baby’s head was protruding. She stated in an interview that she is primarily concerned with three things: protecting infants so they don’t suffer injury as soon as they leave the womb, setting up the environment with blankets so it is as uncluttered as possible. If you don’t have access to the postpartum medical supplies you’ll need, know what’s feasible and what to do.

As pediatricians and nurses are also present, everyone feels more confident when receiving postpartum care. I sever the umbilical cord both times. I also examined the infant. She was red-faced and screaming, so I massaged her and suggested a trip to the pediatrician. She remembers that Mom appeared to be in good health. Congrats, it’s a baby girl, I said. I remarked, “Oh yeah, I’m on the plane, and people are watching this,” as the entire aircraft began applauding.

Dr. Khatib inspired the mother to give her daughter that name. Her first gift was a gold necklace the doctor was wearing with the word “Aisha” engraved in Arabic. “I think I’ll give it to her, and she’ll have a little memory of the doctor who lifted her up 35,000 feet while flying over the Nile,” she said.
