Before deciding to get married, Jon and Kate Gosselin went on dates and fell deeply in love. After getting married on June 12, 1999, they decided to start a family on October 8, 2000. says Kate. “We turned to reproductive treatments because we couldn’t conceive naturally.”
At 35 weeks pregnant, she gave birth to twin girls named Cara Nicole and Madelyn “Mady” Kate. Gosselin became pregnant while undergoing fertility treatment because she would have been unable to do so without it. The couple then made the decision to try for another child.
But that number was many times more than we expected, not one child but six children at once. “We’re supposed to be a fertility nightmare.” Kate said.
She became pregnant to call multiple pregnancies in infertility treatment and does not recommend withholding all pregnancies. The number of fetuses must be reduced to ensure the safety of mother and baby during pregnancy. She decided to keep it all for her life, every baby is a miracle. They know raising eight kids will be exhausting – emotionally and financially – but Jon and Kate say they’ve never considered reducing the number of babies in the womb.
On May 10, 2004, the family of four welcomed Hannah, Joel, Leah, Collin, Alexis and Aaden into their lives. The first boy, Aaden Jonathan, was born weighing 2 pounds, 7.5 ounces, 13 inches long, followed by Collin Thomas weighing 3 pounds,. 5 ounces, 15 inches long. A third baby girl, Leah Hope, was born weighing 2 pounds, 14.8 ounces, and 15.4 inches long.
Multiple births are now somewhat more common because to infertility treatments, which were once an incredibly uncommon phenomena. But it’s incredibly uncommon to conceive a sextuplet naturally without the use of reproductive medications. In actuality, there are 1 in 4.7 billion naturally occurring sextuplets.
Kate spends most of her time cooking healthy, organic meals for her family of 10. “My day is to cook a meal, serve a meal, clean up a meal, clean everything up, wipe this, change that, deal with this,” she says.
These moms and dads don’t always feel pressured to raise eight kids under the age of eight, but they know they’re in it together. “It can be a crazy life,” said Jon. “But it was our life,” Kate said.
