Big Is Beautiful: 6.02kg Baby Girl Breaks Hospital Record

A whopping six kilogram bub has broken the Rockhampton Hospital record for the biggest baby born.

Maisie Lily Macdonald arrived one week early to her parents Mason Macdonald and Makaela Kirkby on Monday, weighing in at 13 pounds and four ounces (6.02kg).

“I was pretty stoked. I couldn’t believe she was six kilograms, it’s cool,” Mr Macdonald said.

Maisie’s mother said the last few weeks of pregnancy were difficult, but the pain made it all the more enjoyable when the bub was finally born.“I needed help getting out of bed. I was just over it,” Ms Kirkby laughed.

“I went for a growth scan at about 37 weeks and she was weighing about ten pound then. I certainly didn’t think she’d come out at 13 pounds.”

Mr Macdonald said he was amazed at his partner’s ability, adding he “certainly couldn’t have done it”.

The couple also has 17-month-old Aubree Rose, who weighed in at just over 11lbs.

Mr Macdonald took to Facebook to share a picture of his newborn and break the exciting news.

“I’d like to introduce Maisie Lily Macdonald to everyone, weighing in at 13 pound 4 ounces (6.020 kilograms) claiming the record of biggest baby born at Rockhampton hospital,” he wrote.

Readers have been fascinated by Maisie’s story and shared it thousands of times on social media.

Friends, family and strangers wished the lucky parents, Makaela Kirby and Mason Macdonald a huge congratulations on their healthy, second daughter.

“Wow just wow…. congrats guys all the best… I take my hat off to you and kneel at your feet… you are a machine,” one particularly impressed friend wrote.

In 2013, Oliver Stokes smashed the record for Queensland’s largest baby at 14lbs 14 ounces (6.76kg), according to the Rockhampton Bulletin.

Numerous parents shared their own “big bub” stories, including Steven Hunt whose two and a half year old son Mason was birthed naturally weighing 11lb 9oz.

Robyn Archer said her grandmother boasted of birthing her 14lbs father in 1924.
