70-Year-Old Woman Had Her First Child After 54 Years Of Marriage

An elderly couple who have been married for 54 years finally had the child they had yearned for for decades. She is 70 years old, while he is already 75.

Now 70, Chandravati and her husband welcomed their first child after a successful round of in vitro fertilisation (IVF).

Overjoyed father Gopichand, 75, said: “Tears of happiness have come out of Chandravati’s eyes time and time again. After a successful round of IVF, the new mum and her husband of 54 years, Gopichand, 75, were finally gifted with a bundle of joy.

Chandravati, from Rajasthan, India, gave birth to a 7lb 7oz baby earlier this week. The boy was born at Indo IVF Test Tube Baby Centre, the only registered IVF center in Alwar city, India, according to the Times of India portal.

The couple have also traveled to various metropolitan cities for treatment. But to no avail. About a year and a half ago, Gopichand approached the birthing center through his relative.

Gopichand was shot in the leg as a soldier, leading to a reported injury that made it difficult for the couple to have children.

Despite being delighted they were finally able to conceive, they admit to having some reservations about having a baby at such an unusual age.

According to The New Indian Express, the pair arrived just in time because starting in June 2022, “no IVF infertility center can handle women and men above 50.”According to Dr. Pankaj Gupta, an IVF expert, there are very few children born in this age group nationwide. The couple didn’t get into trouble, though, as the woman conceived before the rule went into effect.

“This is probably the first case of Rajasthan where a 75-year-old man and a 70-year-old woman have a child.”

“Happy that we were able to move our family forward, as I am the only son of my father, Nainu Singh,” he said excitedly.

At that time, her happy husband Rao said: “Thanks to God and the doctors, I am a proud father of two little girls.

“We are the happiest couple on earth today.”

Since delivering birth, Erramatti is rumored to have remained in intensive care. She lived, but regrettably, a year after they became parents, her husband tragically died at age 84 from a heart attack.
