In under nine minutes, a mother gave birth to six children—four boys and two girls—beating the incredible odds of one in 4.7 billion. Thelma Chiaka in the US has earned the non-existent title of ‘World’s Champion of Childbirth’ after giving birth.
Thelma Chiaka’s sextuplets were delivered between 4.50am and 4.59am on Friday at the Woman’s Hospital of Texas in Houston.
She gave birth to three sets of identical twins—two sets of boys and one set of girls—and is currently taking some much-needed relaxation.
The babies weighed between 1lb 12oz to 2lb and 14oz, and all six were in stable condition as they received care in the hospital’s advanced neonatal intensive care unit. In an interview with Lagos Mums, the mother of six said she had no idea she was going to have six children.
According to her, the initial examination showed that they were expecting four children, and they received the surprise of their lives the moment they were born. I’m happy that the children are healthy.
Motherhood made me realize a strength in me that I never dared to think of. Being a mother has taught me patience, kindness, selflessness, and even perseverance to overcome challenges for my children.
Motherhood is more than wearing the title, its about wanting more for your children even if it is more than you’ve had. Hope the best will come to you, in addition to what I have brought. I hope the world out there will treat you as gently as you did.
