The 29-year-old Ms. Ward said, “We feel so fortunate, but sometimes I feel more like I’m running a nursery than a home.” But Sarah Ward, a new mother, has much more on her list. When she gave birth to the triplets, who are now 19 weeks old, in March, her son Freddie was nine months old. All were created by nature. It takes a lot of work to prepare 80 milk bottles a week and change 175 diapers. That the former care manager and her partner, postal worker Benn Smith, 31, were exhausted is not surprising. When I found out I was pregnant, I was shocked. The fact that they were triplets astounded us. Sometimes it’s utter chaos, but we simply laugh and get trapped.
After attempting to conceive for more than a year, Ms. Ward was heading to see her doctor for a checkup when she fell pregnant with Freddie. After the boy was born in June of last year, the couple did not utilize any kind of contraception. Ms. Ward said, “We want at least two children. We expect it to take at least as long as Freddie did. In reality, she found out she was expecting a child just 8 weeks after Freddie was born.
We enquired about the number of babies we had inside us at our scan at 12 weeks of pregnancy. I was so shocked when she said, “I now have three babies,” that I nearly fell off the bed. All of us were hushed as she pointed at the ultrasound screen, there were three tiny embryos there.
When I discovered they would be born before Freddie turned a year old, I just broke down in tears.
