First-Time Mum Shocked To Give Birth To Whopping 12lb Baby So Big The Doctors Gasped

A first-time mum was shocked to give birth to a whopping 12lb baby so big that even the nurses and midwives gasped when he came out.

Because her newborn baby Buddy was so large, Fiona Hamilton-Currie, 40, was forced to put him in six-month-old clothes. While Fiona was still in the hospital, physicians even stopped over to gawk at the youngster because of how perplexed he was.

Even the midwives gasped by the sheer size of the newborn who “didn’t look like a newborn at all” says Fiona.

“Doctors kept coming in to look at him because they’d never seen such a big newborn.”

Fiona, who lives near Tunbridge Wells, Kent, said: “Normally, newborns drink 10-30mls of milk, but he was having 75ml, so we had to take him to be weighed to make sure he was on track.

“My midwife had been doing her job for 30 years and said he’s the biggest newborn she’s ever seen.

“I knew he’d be big when I was pregnant, but no one believed me.

“I had a massive bump, and towards the end of the pregnancy I was just hobbling around, going from one surface I could lean on to another.

“Once he was born, everyone was so helpful making sure I knew what to do with a big baby.

“When you have a C-section, you’re told not to lift anything heavier than your baby, but I couldn’t even lift him he was so big.”

The tot, who was the same weight as a gallon of paint at birth, is now 24 pounds.

Fiona said: “A C-section wasn’t the plan, but my heart rate was very low and Buddy’s stopped on the monitor when it came time to push.

She says: “Buddy didn’t seem keen on coming out. It might have been because he was so big.

“They had to induce me and after four hours I was given pethidine for the pain — it was like nothing I’ve experienced.

“Buddy’s heart rate dropped, then stopped, while the eight and a half hours she was in labor. It was frightening.

“They had to get him out quickly and I was put under general anaesthetic so neither Graham nor I got to see him being born.

Fiona added: “I came round 30 minutes later to see this huge baby being passed to me.

“Buddy doesn’t cry all that often, but when he does, by golly, we all know about it. He must have healthy-sized lungs, too.”

Following the birth, Fiona was left with baby clothes Buddy was unable to wear.
