A first-time mum who beat 1 in 200 million gave birth to identical triplets . When Allana Allard, 29, and her husband Tim, 31, learned they were expecting their first child back in October 2019, they were over the moon.
Allana Allard said she and her husband tried to have a baby within two weeks after many home pregnancy tests came back positive. The couple eagerly went for an ultrasound when Allana Allafd was 6 weeks pregnant.
But were left speechless after being told there were three little heartbeats coming through.
With no history of multiple births in either side of their families, Allana and Tim said they couldn’t believe their family was about to grow by three in size from their very first pregnancy.
Allana, born in Falkirk, Scotland but moved to Australia at the age of 13, said: “We decided to start trying for a baby last October. We heard two heartbeats at first, and we were told it was twins. But after doing an internal ultrasound we got the news it was triplets.”
And after welcoming identical triplets boys Jaxon, Zac and Zavier.
“After the initial shock wore off, we were just so excited. Of course we were a bit scared as all new parents are, but we were so happy.”
The likelihood of a woman giving birth to naturally identical triplets could be as low as 1 in 200 million, according to some research, although the actual number is unknown.
And as if expecting triplets was not overwhelming enough, five months into Allana’s pregnancy the world was turned upside down with the C̵O̵V̵I̵D̵-̵1̵9̵ ̵pandemic.
Allana went on to say that the C̵O̵V̵I̵D̵-̵1̵9̵ ̵ travel ban forced her cherished 82-year-old grandmother, who had previously traveled frequently from Scotland to Australia, to postpone her journey to see her grandkids.
“No one in our family was able to see the triplets until we got home.”
The boys were born by C-Section at 33 weeks weighing 1.9kg, 2kg and 2.3kg. “We never thought they would be exactly the same, as the two share a sac and placenta, while the other has its own pouch. But strangely, my children are identical.”
