Mum’s Shock After Giving Birth to ‘Miracle’ Triplets Conceived in 25,000-1 Shot

A mum from Southport says the birth of her naturally conceived triplet girls is “a miracle”. Sarah Johnson has told how she gave birth to Darcie, Macy and Bobbie-Ann after waiting years to have just one girl.

Sarah, 31, conceived her trio naturally – unlike the majority of triplets who are born after IVF treatment.

The beaming mother described the three girls as a “miracle” and now has five children. Each of the triplets was born weighing 5lbs. The chance of this is approximately 1 in 25,000.

Mum Sarah, who already has two boys, said: “It was a massive shock to learn I was pregnant with triplets. I’ve waited for a baby girl forever and now I’ve got three.”

To transport the sisters and their two elder brothers, who are ages five and seven, the family has invested in a new seven-seater vehicle.

Sarah, who is a heath care assistant at Southport hospital, added: “We are buying three of everything and have three cots ready for the sisters. It is a very exciting time.”

33 weeks and 6 days later, the triplets were born by their mother. Each of the girls weighed about 5 pounds. The identical twin daughters are two.

Multiple births are unusual, according to Lynne Eastham, head of nursing and midwifery at Southport and Ormskirk hospital NHS Trust. But the chances of a woman having triplets naturally are much more incredible.

“We wish the family congratulations and the best of luck for the future.”
